Eunice Esther Bentch Lehman was born November 2, 1937, in Camden County near Edwards, Missouri. She passed away on October 24, 2009, at her home near Versailles. She was the daughter of George Ezra and Minnie Opal McDavitt Bentch. She moved to Morgan County northeast of Versailles in the Providence/Bethel community in 1945. She lived there for the remainder of her life. She grew up on a dairy farm, helping to milk and to care for the cows and sheep.

Eunice graduated from the eighth grade at Providence School and was a graduate of Versailles High School in 1955. She attended Draughn’s Business College in Springfield, Missouri.

Eunice married a farmer, Quintin Garber Lehman, in August of 1965. They were the parents of two sons, Rodney Brian and Brent Kevin Lehman.

Eunice accepted Christ as her Savior as a young girl and was baptized at Mt. Zion Mennonite Church. She transferred her membership to Bethel Mennonite Church in 1965, and has remained an active member. In her younger days, she served as Primary Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, MYF sponsor, and as Church Secretary. She was active in the Women In Mission group.

Eunice worked as a dental assistant for Dr. M.S. Otten in Versailles, and as an office clerk for Western Auto in Kansas City, Missouri. Eunice was a bookkeeper at Versailles Truck & Tractor for many years, and in 1993, she was employed at Crown Power & Equipment in Eldon, Missouri. She retired from Crown Power in October of 2005.

In the early 70’s, Eunice served on the Farmer’s Home Administration committee in Morgan County. She was a past member of American Business Women’s Association, and was a charter member of the Versailles Visionaries Chapter.

Eunice enjoyed nature and being outside. She was a member of the Grow & Glow Garden Club and was a Master Gardener.

Her hobbies included reading, music, gardening, baking, and most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. It would make her day when the family came on Wednesday night for fried chicken. She always had time or would make time to baby sit for her grandchildren.

Eunice is survived by her husband, Quintin, of the home; her sons, Rodney Brian Lehman and wife Secely and Brent Kevin Lehman and wife Becky; two granddaughters and two grandsons, Nicole Elizabeth Lehman, Connor Quintin Lehman, Gabriel Joseph Lehman, and Josie Kate Lehman; a sister, Lela Wenger and husband Paul; and two brothers, Harlen Donalee Bentch and Clarence Everett “C.E.” Bentch and wife Betty. In addition to her parents, a grandson, Luke Joseph Lehman, and a sister, Glendola Wenger preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 27, at the Bethel Mennonite Church with Pastor Dave Zapf officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethel Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 26, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles.
